Everything you need to know about permanent makeup — from the first consultation to your final healed result.
A topical numbing cream is applied before and during the procedure to maximize comfort. Most clients describe the sensation as light pressure or mild scratching rather than pain. Comfort varies by individual and treatment area — brows tend to be the most comfortable, while lip procedures may involve slightly more sensitivity. Ellie takes every step to ensure a relaxing experience from start to finish.
Results typically last between 1 and 3 years depending on the service, your skin type, sun exposure, and skincare routine. Oilier skin types and those who use active skincare products (like retinol or acids) may fade faster. Annual or bi-annual touch-up appointments are recommended to maintain your optimal result. Eyeliner tends to be the most long-lasting of all PMU services.
The initial healing phase takes approximately 7–14 days. During this time, the pigment will appear darker and more intense — this is completely normal and expected. As the skin heals, the color softens significantly to its true, natural shade. Full healing and final color settling occurs over 4–6 weeks. Detailed aftercare instructions are provided at your appointment to ensure the best possible outcome.
Most healthy adults are excellent candidates for permanent makeup. However, certain conditions and medications may affect candidacy — including pregnancy, nursing, active skin conditions in the treatment area, blood-thinning medications, and certain autoimmune conditions. A consultation with Ellie allows us to evaluate your individual situation and design a safe, personalized approach. We do not perform services on anyone under 18.
Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners for at least 24–48 hours prior. Discontinue retinol and chemical exfoliants on the treatment area for 2 weeks before your appointment. Do not receive Botox within 2 weeks of your procedure. Come with clean skin and no makeup on the area being treated. Full pre-care guidelines are sent to you after booking.
The perfecting session, typically scheduled 6–8 weeks after your initial procedure, is a standard part of the permanent makeup process. After healing, some areas may be lighter or patchy — especially in skin that heals unpredictably. The touch-up allows Ellie to assess the healed result and make any refinements needed to finalize and perfect the outcome. It is included in the initial service fee.
Corrective PMU is one of the most technically complex services in the field. The approach depends entirely on the existing work — its color, age, depth, and condition. Ellie evaluates each case during a thorough in-person consultation, sets realistic expectations, and builds a step-by-step correction plan. Some cases require multiple sessions, and not all work can be fully corrected. Honesty is always the foundation of every correction consultation.
That is exactly what a consultation is designed to answer. Ellie will assess your facial structure, skin type, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals — then recommend the technique and approach most likely to deliver the most beautiful, natural result for your specific anatomy. If you are unsure, simply book a consultation and let Ellie guide the conversation.
A consultation is strongly recommended and is required for all corrective services. It allows Ellie to evaluate your skin, understand your goals, and ensure you are fully informed before any procedure begins. Consultations may be conducted in person at our Sarasota studio or virtually depending on availability. Contact us to arrange yours.

Yes — once fully healed (approximately 4–6 weeks), you can wear makeup over your permanent makeup as normal. Many clients find they no longer need to, which is often the point. During the initial healing period, the treatment area must be kept clean and dry — full aftercare instructions are provided after your appointment.
